Birmingham is very accessible at the centre of Britain’s road, rail and air network and boasts one of the most modern airports in Europe.
The ease of access to the city and the comprehensive transport system linking Birmingham to the rest of the world offers a real benefit to everyone involved in the UCI BMX World Championships 2012.
International Airport
Birmingham International Airport (BIA) is the Midland’s global gateway and the UK’s second largest airport outside of London. The airport handles more than nine million passengers annually through its two terminals and the airport provides direct scheduled links to over 100 destinations from all over the world.
Birmingham International Airport is only 20 minutes travelling time from the city centre hotel accommodation and the NIA, the venue for the UCI BMX World Championships 2012.
Rail and Coach Travel
By rail, Birmingham is only 1 hour 30minutes travelling time from the centre of London. The city’s brand new coach station, is also at the heart of Britain’s national coach network connecting directly to over 500 destinations.
The major railway station, Birmingham New Street, links to most of the major cities in the UK and rail services operate regularly from Birmingham International Airport to Birmingham New Street, with departures approximately every 10 minutes.
The station is located just 1km from the national indoor arena that will host the 2012 Championships.
Ferry
For those travelling by car or van, Birmingham is located centrally in the UK and accessible from a range of ports from mainland Europe.
For travel from continental Europe, we recommend arriving in Dover/Folkestone and crossing from Calais via either P&O Ferries/Sea France or using Le Shuttle. All three of these operators provide a very regular service throughout the day and night and offer competitive fares via their websites. All have the facility to carry larger vehicles including trucks as well as cars and vans.

- Felixstowe to Birmingham is approximately 3 hours 15 minutes
- Hull to Birmingham is approximately 2 hours 30 minutes
- Holyhead to Birmingham is approximately 3 hours 15 minutes
- Dover to Birmingham is approximately 3 hours 45 minutes
- Plymouth to Birmingham is approximately 3 hours 45 minutes
Channel Tunnel
By car the journey from the channel Tunnel to Birmingham only takes approximately 3 hours 45 minutes
Motorway Travel
Nearly 30 million people live within two hours travelling time from Birmingham. Lying at the heart of Britain’s motorway network, the city is easily accessible from all parts of the country
- From London via the M40 and M1.
- From North England Via the M6 and M1
- From South West via the M5
Parking Information
